no video upon install

Ok so i've tried everything to get vista to load on my computer and every
single time, the same error occurs. I go through the whole installation
process and it reboots a couple of times then it says vista is starting for
the first time and and then my monitor goes black with no input. I read
another post just saying that this is a common problem and to wait it out,
well I've waited hours and all it does it reboot after a while and then boot
pretend like its going to load vista, then more black screen. It never
reboots after this point. I'm pretty sure the problem is my nVidia drivers
but I've updated those as of 2/28. I read a couple of postings saying that
their are new drivers as of 3/3 but as far as I can tell, those are all vista
drivers which I can't install without loading vista first. I've tried doing
so in the MS-DOS prompt under repair installation but the set-ups run into
errors. I'm out of ideas here. I've tried with both vista home premium 32
and 64 bit, upgrade with the 32 and clean install with the 64 since those are
my only options. My video card is a G-Force 6600 and I've been reading a lot
about problems with nVidia on these posts but it sounds like everyone got
vista working before they encountered the problems. Thanks for any and all
input.

Is this an upgrade? What monitor resolution had you been running previously?

It could be that the resolution your monitor is set for is out of range, for
the drivers supplied by the Vista installer.

I have a Gforce 6600 with 256 meg of RAM. The install goes fine on this
computer with the supplied drivers. I also leave my LCD monitor set for auto
detect (analog vs. digital) and the monitor resolution is set for 1280 x
