no video found when trying to record

When I try to record from my camera (8 mm) to my computer
using XP I do not have a video selction to choose from, I
only have audio......doesn't xp come with the video
software needed.?

Is this a digital camcorder connected via firewire to the PC? An 8mm
camcorder is usually analog - so you must have analog capture hardware
installed in the PC in order to be able to capture analog video. Do you
have analog capture hardware?
