No thrid party templates in FP2003

S

Sinan [XP-Pro]

My FP driven shopping cart design software (LaGarde's StoreFront) puts its
web/page templates to templates directory of FP during its installation.
With FP2002, I was able to see all cart templates in the Open Page/Web
template windows of FP. But, with FP2003, no cart templates were available
at all. Software is installed and running with FP2003 correctly. But no
templates. I also asked for help from LaGarde but any advice would be
appreciated from here as well.

Thanks,

Sinan

Hi Sinan,

FP3 changed the default location of all themes, bots, wizards, etc. It added the office version number (11) following the default
location.

Copy your older custom templates (depending on type) from the FP2002 location
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\PAGES
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\FRAMES
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\CSS
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\WEBS
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\THEMES

To your USER customized appropriate folder
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Microsoft\FrontPage\Pages
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Microsoft\FrontPage\Frames
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Microsoft\FrontPage\CSS
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Microsoft\FrontPage\Webs
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Microsoft\Themes

Thank you!

I moved old template Page folder to 1055/Pages11 and old template Web folder
to 1033/Webs11.

Now, I can see both within FP3.

Regards,

Sinan

You can also use Stefan's suggestion if you do not wish for the templates to be global.

That works too
- but putting anything in the default installation folders does not guarantee they will survive system updates / patches and
reinstalls
(like the upgrade from 2002 to 2003 failed to "transfer" them when MS changed the folder names w/ versions)
- that's why I recommend putting them in the user custom folders

IMHO
- all addins should use the User custom folders (not the Program default folders)

Ok, thanks. One more question. How FP can detect a custom folder for showing
templates?

Which one?
It should detect all currently logged in user custom application data folders in:
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Microsoft

PS
To get to them, enter the below in the address bar of Windows Explorer as a shortcut:
%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft

I cannot see my custom template page in FP3's default 'Page Templates'
window when I moved the custom template folder to :

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\FrontPage\Pages

I can only see when it's in :

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\PAGES11

Am I wrong?

S

Stefan B Rusynko

And the <user> is the actual name you are currently logged in under in Windows?
- as opposed to being logged in under admin
Same one you find when using
%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\FrontPage\Pages

Yes, correct. I had made it anonymous on purpose. Here it is :

C:\Documents and Settings\Sinan Altinok\Application
Data\Microsoft\FrontPage\Pages

That's the problem. I cannot see the templates when I moved them here.
