No taskbar or icons on desktop

RicAlex

After upgrading from Win98 to WinXP Professional, I
reboot system and do not have any icons or taskbar, nor
START button.

I was be able to navigate through task manager by
pressing ctrl+alt+del and use CMD to open such programs
like AOL and Windows clac.

The error I got when I put my user id and password that
explorer is unable to open or start. And it asked if you
want to report or do not respond.

The installation went very smooth and it took about 96
minutes.

My machine is dell PIII 500 MGHZ, about 12 GB harddrive
and 128 ram. I have about %70 free harddrive space.

I know that system meet upgarde requirments, but somthing
happen toward the end of installation from Window98SE to
WindowsXP professional additio SP1.

By the way this is a stand alone machine. Is not
configured on network.

Please let me know what can I do.

Many thanks.
