I'm fairly new to Windows Vista. We purchased a new desktop machine about a
week ago; it came equipped with Windows Vista Ultimate. Prior to this point
I had been using Windows XP Pro for the past several years.
One of the things that I liked so much about Windows XP was the Task
Manager. After using the nightmarish Windows NT and Windows 98 (where the
Task Manager was either nonexistent or not very helpful) Windows XP was a
huge improvement.
Task Manager is of course supposed to be an integral and functioning part of
Windows Vista.... or at least this was my understanding. However, after
having our Windows Vista machine experience program freezes and/or other
associated problems -- where Task Manager would be called upon -- I find that
it's ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to get Windows Vista to bring up the Task Manager.
When I hit the Crtl-Alt-Delete buttons to bring up Task Manager I'm
presented with the new Windows Vista window menu (with the Task Manager
option at the bottom). After selecting Task Manager nothing happens. The
Task Manager never appears. The program in question remains problematic
and/or frozen.
It's like Windows Vista is incapable of providing the smooth/clean
resolution associated with Windows XP, i.e. bringing up the Task Manager and
choosing to manually quit the program.
Unfortunately, Task Manager not been an option with our new Windows Vista
machine as of yet. We have encountered the situation where we needed to
utilize Task Manager to manually close a program probably 5-6 times. IT HAS
NEVER WORKED. Task Manager has never shown up.
Instead, the window-menu that Vista brings up automatically when you press
the Crtl-Alt-Delete buttons disappears and you are left searching all over
the place for the TaskManager.... never to be found.
Is anyone else out there experiencing similar problems? How does one go
about getting Task Manager to actually show up and have an effect? Has
Microsoft done something in Windows Vista to make the Task Manager less
effective?
Any and all comments and input would be most appreciated!
