no subject line and attachments cannot open

This is a real puzzler and defies logic and I am getting frantic!
I am running Outlook 2000 on Windows 98 in a small company using an email
server and external host. Since 2 weeks ago, suddenly I cannot view
attachments and at the same time the subject line is Blank. This applies to
emails recieved from more than one external client. Other people in our
company have no problems when receiving mail from the same clients - And they
have the same software installation. They now forward to me via internal mail
and that is the only way to get around this in the meantime. I have checked
security settings, re-installed, reconfigured just about everything in the
book! Is there someting I am missing??
Can someone out there please help this little soul???

Try disabling your antivirus software, just as a test, and see if the
problem goes away.

I did check for virus programs. This company does not have much in the way of
virus protection. In addition, the messages are being sent in HTML format
which is said to be safer. So am still stuck.
Thanks for taking the trouble to reply Ben. Could you suggest an alternative?
Our service provider also cannot understand this problem or offer a solution.
Soon I am going to submit myself voluntarily to the madhouse!

Actually HTML would be less safe; more opportunity for mischief or error
there. Safest would be to have the messages sent in Plain Text format.
Which you might try.
