I have windows xp. I push the start button and the fans turn on but nothing
more.
I think the hard drive turns on for just a moment but never boots.

No POST/BIOS information shows up? The fans come on for a moment then
nothing else, no noises, no hard disk activities, nothing? It's not a
Windows problem, it's a hardware problem. Possibly your power supply is
toast.

hi

Do you see any light blinks on CPU (casing)
also if the fan move it mean the power supply should be ok.

check your cable inside your system. If you are always like me fiddling with
cables :) then it is diffenatly a loose cable.

Also you could try disconect all the drives (cd/dvd/hd/floppy) and then
connect only one (let say floppy drive) and see if you are in luck.

Two minutes with a 3.5 digit multimeter will either identify what has
failed or provide sufficient information to obtain useful replies.
Connector from power supply to motherboard includes a purple wire. Do
not disconnect anything inside computer. Push meter probe into
connector to measure voltage from purple wire to black wire (or
chassis). That voltage must be greater than 4.87 when power cord
connects to wall receptacle and when computer is not powered. Then
measure voltage on green and gray wires before and when power switch is
pressed. Numbers for each measurement should be reported here.

Repeat measurements for one yellow, orange, and red wire when switch
is pressed.

Based upon your post, gray wire voltage may never change. Maybe one
of yellow, orange, or red wire does not rise. Posting numbers for each
will provide responses that are useful. Demonstrated will be how to
identify this problem in but two minutes.
