No start button, taskbar, or icons on desktop

Ive got nothing on my desktop except my wallpaper. There is no start button,
taskbar, or icons. What did I do? How do I get them back. I juct bought
this laptop and have only turned it on 3 times. The first 2 everything look
normal and then this 3rd time Ive got nothin!
 
Press three keys together - Ctrl & Alt & Del

This brings up Task Manager...

Click on any tab except Networking - then go to File...New Task(Run...) and
type "explorer" (without the quotes).

Click OK.

That should restore what is missing....

I'm sorry to announce you you made an error buying this laptop...
(Better explained: the problem you mention is the first of a long unending list of problems you'll get using Windows...)
But maybe not totally if the laptop's hardware is supported by Linux; take a look at mandrivalinux.com, they have an hardware compatibility list (if you can't find it contact them).
(With Linux you will avoid such problems, but it requires a certain time to adapt)

Try starting in Safe Mode. Tap the F8 key repeatedly as Windows is
loading. Does that bring back your desktop?

If it's a new laptop I'd contact the manufacturer or retailer where you
purchased the computer.
