No standby option

Replaced Motherboard, CPU, modem card and now video is handled by the MoBo.

Clean-installed WinXP SP1, and standby is not an option. I realize that not
all hardware supports Hibernation, which also is not available, but
standby??

Is there a Windows-based solution?
And what exactly happens in standby, anyway?

1. There is no mention of Standby in the Power Options section under Control
Panel.
2. Start / Turn off Computer shows the Standby option greyed out.

Have you checked the BIOS of the new MOBO to see if power savings is
disabled?

"Trustworthy Computing" is only another example of an Oxymoron!

The lack of a Standby button indicates you are using XP's
generic VGA drivers.

Your video adapter drivers probably need to be reinstalled.
Visit the support web site of the manufacturer of your video
card adapter and download the latest drivers.

Before installing them, uninstall the old drivers. In your
Control Panel, open the Add or Remove Programs applet
and look for your video drivers to uninstall.

If you happen to have a notebook computer, visit the notebook
manufacturer's support website to download the correct video
adapter drivers for your specific notebook model.

After installing a fresh set of drivers, right-click on your
desktop and select Properties > Settings, change the Color
Quality to "Highest (32 bit), then adjust your Screen Resolution
to your liking, then click on Apply.

I am using a "user defined" power setting:
HDD powers down after 15 min.
Suspend takes place after 30 min.
I am not sure what Suspend consists of, but it appears not to be happening.
As an experiment, I chose the "Max Saving" power setting:
HDD down after 8 min.
Suspend occurs after 1 min.
If Suspend is supposed to turn off the video, this did not occur.
Sort of a strange BIOS: Shutdown settings for the HDD are 8-15 min.
regardless of whether max saving, min saving or user-defined. The longest
the system can go before Suspend is 1 hour, on min saving. Obviously this is
not happening. I thought the BIOS overrode Windows on power issues. In this
case, neither one seems to be in control.
Perhaps I should investigate the driver angle.
