No sound

Had a virus on my Dell 4600. Dell advised me to to
uninstall and reinstall everything. Computer working okay
now, but no sound. No question marks or exclamation marks
next to drivers in device manager. Get sound on two out
of three sound troubleshooting tests, but no system
sounds or game sounds or cd sounds when using computer.
Reinstalled drivers. Updated drivers. Dell no help at
all, even after 6 calls to India. Computer is only 6 mos.
old. Have Windows XP home with SoundMax. What else can I
try????
