Hi folks.
Doing an installation of a new Gigabyte GA-81915G Pro board.
Got it in the tower with P4 2.8 CPU, Gigabyte 128MB NX66T128D GEF6600 PCIEX
video card, 512 MB memory for now.
Boots good & have XP installed etc.
Only prob is that it has no sound.
In the setup there appears to be nowhere to activate it.
There is a setting to auto detect the AZALIA audio function. I've tried this
on & off.
Really it has audio onboard (C-Media (9880 CODEC (UAJ) ) & by all accounts
it should just "be there".
Any ideas folks?
In device manager it just isn't there so don't tell me to remove it &
reboot.
I've tried forcing the C-Media drivers into it but get "no hardware for
these drivers" & it exits.
Hope you can help?

Well it probably means your onboard sound hardware isn't working, I'm
afraid. I d/l'd the mobo manual and 'auto detect' should be all that is
required to enable the device, like you say. Have you left alone the
onboard header that is normally used to connect the sound output sockets
that are found on many cases?

OK, I've read up on that chipset. It might be new enough that XP only
supports the basic functions of it, and can't enable the proper interface to
the sound controller. Or in other words, it's possible that you will need
to update the mainboard chipset drivers and/or flash the mainboard to a
newer BIOS version (if available) before XP will be able to detect that
there IS a sound card. Good luck, -Dave

Onboard sound requires driver, usually on CD supplied with motherboard.
Check you have correct CD, see if there is an updated driver on web. Have
you checkrd BIOS in Onboard Devices?
Mike.

Thanks for all attempts to help me. For the moment I've stuck in an OLD
sound card. PCI. At least it also gives him a game port.

I've tried some of the suggestions but honestly believe it to be the fact
that I've put a video card into a board that already has onboard video. I
noticed in several forums that on some boards (other brands as well) that
this will kill the sound.
As the comp has been sent to the owner because of immediate needs I'll let
it rest until his work load allows further investigation.
Just seems strange as it is a Giga Video card in a Giga board & it DOES have
the PCIEX slot there for a reason?
The main purpose of this board is for very high end graphics (course) so at
this stage sound is not so important.
It is a shame to have all those outlets for nothing though.
