No Sound Again

I don't have any sound from my computer again (media player, internet, etc.).
The two speakers (stereo) work because I can test them and I've tried system
restore four times to no avail ("unidentified problem prevented restore").
The first time my sound was knocked out a few weeks ago, I uninstalled
software for my wireles keyboard and mouse, and downloaded the driver from
the manufactures' site and got the sound back. This second time, the sound
seemed to disappear after importing video from my Sony D8 camcorder on movie
maker. Should I be able to hear my video on the computer while importing? I
have Vista Home Premium preloaded on my new Acer computer. Suggestions?

If you are not hearing any audio at all from your computer, click Start >
type Device Manager > open it > expand your 'Sound, video and game
controllers' from the devices tree, select your Audio device, right click it
from the contextual menu that appears, click 'Scan for hardware changes', if
it does find any problems and your audio is still not working, from that
same contextual menu, click the 'Update Driver software...'.

This should check for any new available drivers for the device that might
resolve your issue. You could also try uninstalling the device, restart the
system, let Windows redetect it and reinstall the driver.

Control Panel==>Hardware and Sound==>Sound==>Highlight
Speakers==>Configure==>Test

If you do not hear dings, check your speakers plug in (if External). Make
sure their jacks are in. it is better if they are digital but no necessary.

It seems you may also need to check the Recording Tab. Make sure the device
you are using is highlighted and set as default.
