No sound after update

I installed two updates today: 820291 and 811493. After
successfully downloading, updating, and restarting my
computer, I lost all sound. I am able to barely hear
music in windows media player if I crank my speakers and
the integrated sound up to maximum. I followed the
troubleshooting steps for audio (checked to make sure
nothing was muted, and no conflicts, etc.), and it didn't
help. I then did a system restore... still no sound. It
was definitely related to the windows updates. I have XP
Home on a Dell Dimension 4550.

You have two choices- 1. go to add remove programs in the
control panel and un-install the updates since you know
the number. 2. using your help menu, go to system restore
and use a restore point prior to the update. Anything
else you changed since the restore point will be lost.
