My dial-up connection's properties dialogue has no "show
icon in notification area" option and the icon has
disappeared from my notification area. any ideas on
what's wrong and how to fix it? The dialogue box has no
general tab, just the advanced one where you select
whether you want a firewall or not.

Hi there,

To display dialup network connection icon on notification
area, follow these steps:

* Click Start, control panel, double-click network
connections.

* Right-click the desired dial-up connection icon (the
dial up icons are named after the ISPs) and choose
properties.

* In the corresponding properties window, place a check
mark next to the "show icon in notification area when
connected" option and click OK.

The next time when you connect to internet, you should
have an icon in notification area indicating the succesful
establishment of dial up connection.
