No search button on Start Menu

I don't have a find or search button on my start menu. I
just installed Win XP Pro from Win 98. This feature
seems to be unavailable. I can search from a folder but
not from the start menu. What is wrong?
 
Right click the Start button and select Properties. Click Customize and
then go to the Advanced tab. Scroll down and make sure that Search is
checked off.
