no safe mode after pressing F8 constantly when start

I did a clean install of XP home on my custermized PC.

I need to get into safe mode to check out a software
issue.

when I repeatedly press F8, it still starts the window in
the normal mode.

Any help available?

try holding the key down steady instead of pushing it intermittently. If that
fails, to it from windows:

start, run, msconfig, boot.ini, select safe mode in boot options.
