Hi. I am trying to perform a remote install using RIS. I
have a 3com NIC card which is on the list of cards
recommended. I have created the boot disk in rbfg.exe.
DHCP DNS and AD are running on the network. When I try to
boot from the disk it seems to find dhcp but then a
message appears "No reply from a tftp server". There is
not much help on the support.microsoft site and I am a
bit stuck. I have just embarked on the MCSE and any help
would be appreciated.

Some basic questions

1)
Can you ping your RIS server?

2)
Is the RIS allowed to respond to unknown client computers?

Also, double check that the RIS is authorized in DHCP (probably is) and
that the RIS service (BINLSVC)is running.

Hallo Rob,
Please try the following steps:

1. connect the client with directly with a crossover-cable with the
RIS-Server. Maybe there is a problem with your switch (no spanning tree
option).
2. on the command prompt you should enter risetup /check. With this command
you can check if the RIS-Server is running correctly on the local interface.
3. Do you use a Firewall- or Antivirus Software? Do not protect the
TFTP-Port. I had this problem with the Gdata Antivirus Software.

Hope this helps

Adrian

Hi,
It seems to be the same problem which I had, everytime
when I made a fresh Installation of The RIS-Server. Do you
tried to restart the complete RIS-Server when it's
possible, or try to unauthorize the DHCP-Server from AD
and authorize it again. Another possibility is to restart
the BINL manually by typing in console "net stop
binlsvc" "net start binlsvc"

I'm sorry about my bad English, but I hope i could help
you.
