Hi:
XP should have no problem displaying Jpeg format it is
the most common type of picture file on the web.Do you
have the folder these are stored in set to thumbnails?
ie:List,details,filmstrip ect...?

wallpaper should be either bmp or jpg.

.
No, What I was trying to say (rather badly)is that their
is no preview in the preview setting all others yes.And
as Jim says either a BMP. or JPEG should work,The
background I'm using now is a jpeg.
Good luck

Tried it last night and tried another pic of the net, put it into windows/web/wallpaper again. I get previews of all the other wallpaper but the one I put into the directory there was no preview.

When I went save as then the directory above at the bottom all I got was art no choice of jpeg, and when you try to open it there is nothing there.

I am convinced it is something simple I have not done, and have tried your suggestions is there a directory where I can choose to save all pics as jpeg and if so can someone direct me. Once more Cheers for all your help so far people.

Windows\web\wallpaper will be quite happy with jpegs, but I would change
the extension to .jpg without the e in it first. It then, when you
select a file, makes a .bmp version in your
Documents and settings\you\. . . area.

There *may* be trouble though with some jpegs that have been made with
idiosyncratic software or perhaps on a MAC. If you run into one, I
would get Irfan View (www.irfanview.com - free - a most excellent
viewer) and load the file in that; then perhaps resize it to the
appropriate size for your screen and save, either as a .jpg in the usual
format or immediately as a .bmp
