No "Presenter View"

Darin

I am using PPT XP, on Windows XP SP2. I recenly
reformated this machine, after installing Office and
Office SP3 I can not get the "Presenter View" to show up.
It is enabled through the "set-up show" menu. I am using
2 video cards (One to a monitor, the other to a
projector). Both monitors are enabled through the desktop
settings. The PPT shows up on the projector fine, but the
presenter view will not show up on the monitor.

Any Ideas?

Thx, Darin

In the Setup Show dialog, is the "Show Presenter View" checkbox grayed out?
Certain kinds of shows will not show in Presenter View (Windowed mode, Kiosk
mode, Rehearse Timings, and custom shows are examples). Does this happen for
a specific presentation, or will Presenter View not start when you restart
PowerPoint and just hit F5?

It also might have something to do with your security settings. Presenter
View (the feature in PowerPoint 2002 and PowerPoint 2003) is a COM add-in.
Maybe in your new install you did something which would restrict PPT add-ins
from running, or you set the macro security too high and removed Microsoft's
signature from your list of trusted signatures. That's just a random guess,
though.

Maybe you need to reboot the computer while attached to the projector in
order for Windows to properly detect and report that there are indeed 2
monitors attached. One of my machines has had this problem before, and it
depends on the configuration and drivers. I suspect it is specific to a
plug-and-play video adapter booted without the cable connected. I don't
suppose you actually have a 3rd video card active? Presenter view always
chooses the nearest monitor to slide show, and if you had a dual-head video
card attached as well as a single-head card, that might explain it.
