Ive just knocked together a spare parts system out of the cupboard
comprising the following

Jetway 867 AS-H motherboard
Athlon xp1600+
Ati Rage IIC agp card
10/100 lan card

it wont start no power or any fan movement i know the power packs good
as are all components cos they have all been previously used by myself
but have been upgraded in other systems any help would be appreciated
as ive run out of ideas

I was just thinking that you havnt sed wot ram u are using. Maybe you
just forgot to include it but the system will not power unless it is
installed also make sure that the power connecter is collected to the
right place. I have also experienced problems withe the bios battery
that caused 1 of my systems not to turn on once.

Hope this helps

I've never heard of a system that won't power up at all if the memory is
missing/bad. They usually start and then you get the error beeps.

If the PSU isn't faulty, I would take the mobo out of the case and see if it
powers up, coz it could be a short under the board somewhere.

If all the parts a 'known good' then you've likely wired it wrong, like the
power switch to the wrong pins.

OK geniuses, how about this:

My daughter's PC worked perfectly until two days ago, when it simply
refused to turn on.

All hardware was verified.

Power supply, yes? No? Comments?

Verified after it stopped coming on? I mean, everything works right up to
the moment it's broke, ya know, so verified yesterday doesn't mean verified
today.

With nothing else to go on that would be my guess.

Now, things you can try are, for one, unplug it for a few minutes, re-plug
it in, and try turning it on again to see if you get the tell tale fan
bump, then nothing, indicating either a PSU failure or something shorted
(over loading it).

Also try the PSU separate from the motherboard and everything else but,
say, one hard drive to give it a load and use the green wire to black
jumper trick to turn it on and see if it runs. If so then the motherboard
and/or processor might be shorted causing a PSU over-current trip.

Well, yes, that's my first guess.

Seriously: What might cause that in a previously working system? If we
were gving odds in Vegas... seriously.

So? Are the results secret or something?

Any number of things. For the PSU it might be one of the el-cheapos that
simply belly up after a while because they're weak to begin with and it was
just it's time to 'die'. Or power fluctuations it's crappy circuitry
couldn't handle, even though it should.

As for other components, could be a failing CPU fan, or dust accumulation,
causing it to overheat but you didn't say what processor it was or
anything else. Could be a failing fan on the GPU that caused it to fail.
Could be a power surge/spike, from whatever source, aggravated by
misapplied surge protectors.

Could be bad Karma ;)
