No page banner or buttons on default page in FP 2003

I have had this "problem" for some time. When I bring up the default page in
FP it says at the top [Add this page to the navigation structure to display a
page banner here] and [Add this page to the Navigation view to display
hyperlinks here]. It is only on this page; banners and hyperlinks are
present on all other pages in the site and show up perfectly on the web.
Clearly the page is "in the navigation structure" so why can't I see them.
It's just annoying.

Check to be sure that your default (home) page is named as exactly required by your web host.
