No nuttin flex atx case

The power supply on my old flex atx machine died so it's my
excuse to get a new case/psu. I've been on newegg and googled but
can't find a tiny enclosure for just the power supply and motherboard.
I boot off my network so I don't need bays for a floppy, cd, hard drive
etc. Does someone make such a case?

Yes, but I couldn't find any without drive bays.

Have you considered building one yourself? You could strip power and reset
buttons off of your old case. (LEDs, also). Or, just use any momentary
contact switches you can find. If you build yourself, the possibilities are
endless. A buddy of mine built a mini-itx system in a small metal
briefcase, about the size of a squashed kleenex box. It's cute, and works
fine. Even has active cooling.

I've seriously thought of building a bleeding-edge VERY HIGH END system in a
small, beat-up garbage can. If someone asks what it is, I can reply, "Just
a pile of junk". (that'll do 15,000 on 3dMark05, Ha Ha) Call it the
ultimate sleeper system. -Dave

But, if you can get the little case you want, you don`t have to put
drives in it <g>.

Wow, I don't know if I'm capable of something like that. I think I
would want something that is somewhat professional looking. Is there
some place that sells an assortment of prefinished generic metal boxes?
I know radio shack has little project boxes but this will have to be
larger.

Hmm, now you got me thinking... what about getting one of the
newegg cases and somehow cutting off the front part, cutting off the
part with drives, then somehow putting the front part back on? I guess
I would need welding or at least riveting.

Or maybe mounting the power and motherboard in a plexiglass box... or
even a wooden box.

Though cool, this sounds like a lot of work for a dinky old pc, why
doesn't someone just make a flex atx box without drive bays? Is it so
weird?

Ha ha, that's like if I wanted to buy a 2 room condo and the real estate
agent telling me to get a 2 story house and ignore the second floor ;-)

My guess is that there just isn't enough volume there to warrant the
effort from case manufactureres. Diskless workstations have pretty
much fallen out of favor. (Does anybody else remember the days when
Sun was going to take over the world with diskless workstations?)

Also, I'm not sure how much smaller a flex case without drive base
would be. You still have to have enough height (or width, depending on
how you think of the case) for the CPU heatsink and fan, and for the
power supply.
