No Network Connections....but one...

I am using a Windows XP Home computer, with a wireless adaptor, inbuilt
ethernet, inbuilt FireWire, ADSL modem, and bluetooth adaptor. None of the
above appear in the network connections list except Local Area Connection
(inbuilt ethernet). I have tried registering some net<something>.dll files,
editing the LSA restrictanonymous, and reinstalling all the network adaptors
but all attempts to regain my network connections have been fruitless thus
far. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like something major has gone astray. Two suggestions - if there was a
recent time when it was working you could try system restore to an earlier
time point. Otherwise I would suggest doing a refresh install of Windows over
the top of the existing one (uninstall any service packs installed after the
version on your CD first to avoid some strange problems, then reinstall them
afterwards).
