No mouse input on PS2 connections

Hi guys!

I was given a Time computer, which booted to XP with no trouble but I
could not get any response from PS2 mouse & keyboard.

I presumed that it has originally had a USB mouse and keyboard, so I
thought (you know what thought did?) that if I reset the CMOS jumpers,
it would be reset to PS2 by default but not so.

Now the Bios load, tells me what drives are installed, and then
informs me that there was a checksum error and the defaults are being
loaded.

Press F1 to continue or DEL to enter Setup.

But with no keyboard available I cannot make an imput and so it just
gets stuck.

Ant suggestions?

If it were me, I'd just run down to the local compter store and by a cheapo
USB keyboard and keep it around for situations like this. I'll bet you can
find a simple USB keyboard for $10-$15 or even less.

Interesting. The PS/2 keyboard should have over-ridden any previous
settings for the input device. Of course, this PS/2 keyboard might be
broken or incompatible. But try out hdrdtd's suggestion first.

The PS/2 ports could be dead-ish. Have you tried using another PS/2
keyboard?

This seems highly likely, as the KB & M are both known to function on
another (this) PC.

Replaying my memory of the last time I completed a boot on the PC in
question, the curser for the mouse appeared on screen but wouldn't
move. Am I right in assuming that this indicates a mouse driver has
been loaded?

Thanks!
