No more shared calendar

Hello!

I just picked up a new client that has a 3-PC peer-to-peer workgroup, all
running XP Pro. They have one XP Pro station as their file server, and it
has all their documents on it, as well as a PST file used for contacts and
calendaring. They POP their mail from their domain host.

The other two (aside from the "server" XP station) each have their own XP
Pro workstation with Office 2003, and they each have their own local PST for
Outlook 2003. The receptionist sets all the appointments, so she opens the
PST file on the XP "server" and shares the calendar. That has worked fine
for them for up until today.

When I right-clicked the second PST file's calendar in order to check
sharing, the Sharing item was grayed out, as were Delete Calendar and Rename
Calendar. I looked for a Permissions tab as I would expect to see on an
Exchange/Outlook setup, but there was no Permissions tab.

How can I share the Outlook calendar in the second PST file?

I'm not sure how you were sharing anything at all in a PST file using
Outlook 2003. There's nothing native that will let you do this - were you,
are you, using any third party software? You mention Exchange, but unless
you have an Exchange server (outsourced, or lurking somewhere else on your
network), there ain't no built-in way to do this.

Search for "sharing" at www.slipstick.com for some options.....and
outsourced Exchange might do it.

They insist that it worked, and I did see the "shared" calendar briefly this
morning. What I think is going on is that one or the other of them will open
the PST on the "server" XP station and view its calendar. I got a two-second
glimpse of it this morning and it said "Calendar in USTA" (with usta.pst
being the file they open). On my SBS server, when I view other calendars,
they are listed by the user's name.

That serves me right for listening to a client's description of their setup!
Thank you for the clarification...I could no longer think straight...too
much other stuff on my mind.

Sure, if nobody else is using it at the time, and they have permissions.

Yes, because you're using Exchange. PST files cannot be shared, natively.
