no logon servers available to service the logon request

XP client is part of a Server 2003 domain. During XP initialization, get
event-id 5716 "There are currently no logon servers available to service the
logon request". Get subsequent event-id 1054 "Windows cannot obtain the
domain controller name for your computer network. (The specified domain
either does not exist or could not be contacted. ). Group Policy processing
aborted"

Client's only DNS entry points to Domain Controller. XP User logon's are
successful. Netdiag on XP client shows everything passed. GPupdate on XP
client shows no error. Tried removing from and rejoining domain.
Unfortunately, can't test with another XP client.

Seems machine account logon has issues but it's hard to trace so early in
the initialization process.

Is there anyway to "redo" the machine account logon interactively?

Any hints as to where I should look?
