I'd like to create a user that requires a password and that does not appear
on the welcome screen. I've seen some tweaks in the past (can't remember
where) but was afraid to use them because I could not find an explanation of
how you would sign in if the user name is not visible. Thanks all.

Hi,

TweakUI can control which user accounts show on the Welcome screen:

For a WinXP Pro user, to access the hidden account hit ctrl+alt+delete twice
and type it in. This is not possible in a WinXP Home system.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Once you have made the User account concerned and set it up with its
password, run TweakUI and on the logon page uncheck the box 'Show
<whatever> on the Welcome screen'. Then if you want to login in that
name you can hold down Shift as the machine powers up until the Welcome
screen comes up - showing it

I can see how to make Tweak UI hide the user but I can't get it to appear at
start up. I do Have XP home.
