I have a PC running XP-Home (Kids) and another running 2000-Professional
(Dad).

I can connect to the web from both machines

I can connect to shared files from my 2000-Pro Machine to the XP Home.

When I try to connect from the XP-Home to the 2000-Pro machine I get a
message saying that the resource is not available.

Historically, this has work....However, in the past I've gotten a dialog
that required me to logon to the 2000-Pro machine but that doesn't happen
now.... just the failure message.

I'm up to date with MSFT patches, I tried disabling the firewall.... all to
no avail. I don't "think" anything else has changed, but it is the "kids"
machine so God only know what they've downloaded. I also brought home my
laptop (XP-Pro) and it allows me to connect to both of my Home PC's.

Any ideas on what to check?

Any chance it's the Linksys Router?

Chuck,

you mean when you switched on your Windows 2000 Professional
computer, in the past you were asked to log on with your
username and password, but recently you are not asked?

No. While on the XP-Home machine I would be prompted for a login to the
2000-Pro machine anytime I accessed a shared folder, printer...etc.

Chuck,

ah. Perhaps the kids' computer has received the Service Pack 2
update. Can you check that? It should say so on My Computer,
Properties. It is actually not a bad thing, but it tightens
security somewhat, so it may need a few settings changed,
particularly in the new firewall.

If SP2 has indeed been installed, you could have a look at
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm. If not, we'll have to keep
searching for the cause. In any case, please ask here in the
newsgroup again.

I'll have to check that tonight but I kind of doubt it... I would "think"
that SP2 would prevent people from accessing that machine.... rather than
preventing that machine from accessing others on the network.
