No Kidding! My CD Drive has disappeared!

It appears that my cd drive no longer exists on my computer! On 'My computer'
the dvd drive is present, as is the local disk, but the cd drive no longer
registers! It is built in to my base unit, how can this be?

Please any advice would be so helpful, I am obliged to save my work on to cd
by the end of the day so I have approximately 3 hours!

The same thing has happened to me. One day my cd and dvd drives were no
longer present. I mean physically they are there. they have power, light up
when a disc is inserted........but are not displaying under my computer. It
shows everything else, but no cd or dvd drives to even try to enable. Any
help? I ran so virus software but it hasn't helped....
