Settings? Tried going into add/remove programs and repairing but still the
MS ver. does not work. It detects nothing. AdAware works but SpyBot has
stopped.

Any Suggestions? Thanks in advance

Hello Clay,

That sounds abit annoying :) Its hard to comment as we dont know what it was
that caused.

Start here,
ewido online scanner
http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/
http://castlecops.com/t137442-CCSP_Ewido_Install_and_Scan_Instructions.html

TrendMicros online scanner can also be recommended, note that you have
scanners for both virus and spyware.
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Also remove all temporarily junk with CCleaner,
http://www.ccleaner.com

Please ensure you are doing this under a Administrator accºunt.

Do all the above, and report back the results.

Good luck

Thank you for your response. I appectiate the tips for online resourses.

I appoligize for not being clear.

Here is my Problem:
MS AntiSpyware does not detect anything. Zero items found.

When I run my free version of AdAware SE, I get 10 tracking objects. I am
sure the above referenced sites will find and clean these items also.

What is the problem with MS AntiSpyware? Do I need to adjust the settings
or reload it, or is it just junk and not work as well as AdAware?

Thank you...

Hi clayb1,

The simple answer is Adaware is finding cookies and MS Antispy doesnt scan
for cookies as they are not a threat to your system and contain no code.

You can delete cookies easily by going to start menu > C:/drive > Documents
and Settings > YourUsername > Cookies and opening that folder, Delete any you
dont want from there.

Another option is open a IE browser window and goto tools on the top bar ,
choose Internet Options then press delete cookies.

Third option is from the same page (Internet Options) press the Privacy Tab
and click Advanced - Here you can block and restrict cookies getting onto the
system but they are very usefull to remember usernames & passwords on sites
so only restrict third party cookies if you use that option.

If you take away the cookies then you will not see a big difference in scan
results but if you feel Adaware is detecting spyware that MS Antispy is
missing this is the right place to post details on that, You can copy and
paste the adaware scan results on here if you feel that its needed by using
the Lock icon on Adaware from the main menu.

Perfect! So AdAware was giving me a false sense of security. I deleted
cookies and then ran the sacn. The 10 previous mentioned "critical" items
AdAware found were now gone.

Thank you very much! Excellent ekp, much appreciated>

Hi Clay

This is not a "false sence of security", the "bad guys" using
spyware/tracking cookies to track for example Zombies ie unprotected
PCs, also other Spyware using cookies to track users with a
Spyware installed.

This is more about "business as usual" for MS beacuse there is
no alternative technique to use.

So also remove these threats with Adaware and for example Ewido.
