Hello All,

I need major help. I am connected to the net through linksys router.

Today while I was surfing the net, a spy ware (MEGASEARCH) got
installed. When I rebooted later, my network connection is was not
available. I went to the setting and I found that I have a "network
bridge" for some reason. I did not have this before. Anyhow, I removed
it and try to repair my connection by right clicking on my LAN and
choosing repair. I get an error message saying that IP could not be
renewed.

So in the command prompt I tried
ipconfig /release
and then
ipconfig /renew

and then I get the following message:

"An error occured while renewing interface local area connection the
requested service provider could not be loaded or initiliazed."

What do I do?

By the way, I have Linux Live CD knoppix, and when I boot to linux
from it, I get the network connection all good. IP is good and I can
surf the net perfectly.

So I assume some of my XP configurations got damaged!

The problem is probably a corrupted LSP (Layered Service Provider)
chain.

If you have XP Service Pack 2, typing this line at the command prompt
should fix it:

netsh winsock reset catalog

If you have an earlier version of XP, here are two possible fixes:

1. Use the procedure shown here under "How to Recover from Winsock2
corruption":

2. Download LSPFix on another computer, copy it to a floppy disk, and
run it on your machine. It's available from
