No Image and Red X

Greg

On some web pages, images or graphics appear as an empty
box with a red x in the upper left corner. Most web pages
appear normal.

Is it possible to go back to version 5.5? Microsoft's
page doesn't have the 5.5 download anymore.

I loaded 6.0 about the time I went to DSL instead of dial-
up. Not sure which change caused the problem.

Any help is appreciated. Getting very frustrated.

I had the problem after I installed a new wireless router.
Turns out I had to adjust (loosen) the firewall settings
because it thought there were SYN attacks.

Works fine now.

Using Knowledge Base Article 283807 step 8, I found that I
can get the images by going to View - Encoding-
AutoSelect. I have to manually do this each time the site
is loaded. Don't know why the autoselect feature won't
work, but at least now I can do it manually.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by going into the file
called "hosts" in system32\drivers\etc. I just deleted
all the entries, but you might be able to do it by only
deleting the ones that start with "127.0.0.1"
