http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898594/ talks about installing the recovery
console from the SP2 CD by running \i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons

I have the SP2 CD purchased from Microsoft and no i386 directory exists on
the CD nor is Winnt32.exe anywhere to be found.

Anyone else seen this or solved it?

TIA

I believe you have the Windows XP Service Pack 2 installation CD..
Not the Windows XP installation CD w/SP2 integrated.

One is just the freely downloadable full installation patch.
The other is the actual installable CD with the patch *integrated* into it.

OK, I think you are right. I re-read that several times and it seems that
it could have been made a little clearer. Anyhow, is it possible to make a
bootable cd that has the command console on it?

Thanks again, GWB

You slipstream your original XP CD with the SP2 download and then burn a new
CD which will then be a complete XP w/SP2 CD.
