using Sony computer and DV camera. Capture software can't the camera
 
First thing, check device manager that all is ok.
Check cable, often faulty, if you can borrow a friends cam and cable that
you know works, or plug yours in to their pc as well, in order to narrow
down the options.

Can't what the camera? See it?

Ensure the camcorder is turned on in VCR mode AND is connected via an A/C
power source, NOT powered by its battery.
