movie maker2 dv-avi to Sony drc-trv22e miniDV tape

There seems to be a common problem having searched the web related to
saving dv-avi back to camcorder. My problem is typical:
Sony dcr-trv22e Mini DV with dv in/out
MovieMaker 2

Camera is found and moviemaker can import a dv-avi file from the camera
via firewire with no problems at all.
On attempt to back to the camera using the wizard the camera and wizard go
through all the steps (including the camera playing forward in record mode)
though all that is recorded is a blank screen and no audio.

If you are in Europe, there are some DV Camcorders which do NOT have DV-IN
enabled. If you are in Europe, you should contact the camcorder
manufacturer to find out whether this is the case.

have checked in manual dcr-trv22e definitely has DV in as part of the specs and the LCD screen says "DV in" when attempting to record dv-avi back to the tape.

Make sure there is enough space on the hdd for the temp files, defrag the
hdd, turn off anything not needed, inc internet/a-virus/firewall/screensaver
etc etc.
Try Windv which is pretty good as all it does is import/export.

I have 2 HDD at 160GB for working with movie files and one for saving them to. I have an athlon xp 3200+ and all is defragged. divo and windv both run through the motions of saving as does moviemaker. Even with manual switching on of record on the camera amd firewall off all I get is a blue screen on playback.

Only other thing I can suggest is try to test your cam on another pc with a
cable that is KNOWN to work.

I have the same problem with a camcorder Sony DCR-TRV260. I don`t know what happen, but I tried with another camcorder Sony DCR-PC3 with the same cable and I.Link card and it works properly.

So, I need to work with the TRV260.

Anybody knows what happen here?

Thanks!,

Possibly a fault with the cam, take it back and get them to check it out.

I am new to this type of support and I oppologize fro jumping in here.
I just bought a SonyDcr trv22. It came with image mixer software on CD.
I have an HP ZT1130 notebook with S3 graphics(actually 2 of them). I can not get the Image transfer software to initialize on eitrherof my HP's but it is ok on other computers.
I found a KB item that indicated Firewire 1394 was not supported by XP for this model of Sony camera.

HP and Sony have been ZERO help. It would appear to be a compatibility issue , but I am gettinig no help from them or Pixela that makes image maker

Any thoughts Gordtz

Lots of trv22's work with XP, it must be some sort of combination of
programmes installed or parts fitted that are causing problems.
Are you connecting via firewire?
do you get the xp ping when you connect and turn on to vcr/player mode?
Hoe do you feel about re-installing xp and just try to connect without any
opther apps installed and see how it goes from there?

Graham, thanks for the response
Yes I do get the ping and I see the camera in the hardware table and in the tray.
I am trying to use firewire. I have an IOGEAR bus card.

When I saw the Microsoft KB note indicating it did not support 1394 for this model I thought that was probably the problem why XP would not operate.

The fact that the SONY software does not start makes me think there is something incompatible with the HP S3 Twister Graphic component. I down laoded teh latest S3 driver from Microsoft it did not help. I downloaded the latest driver from S3 it did not help.
I have 2 of these computers and both fail the same.

When I try to use use XP I get about 1 minute of transfer with flecks of color running through the preview screen and then it locks up and nothing else happens

Because both HP's fail the same way I did not consider reinstalled XP. One of the HP's had a complete XP reinstall done about 3 months ago.

I am open to almost anything to get this thing working

Graham, thanks for the reply

Yes I do get the ping , I can see the Camera iin the hardware table and the tray.

Both Hp's use HP S3 Twister graphics hw/sfw.

I am using an IOGEAR 1394 bus card

When I try with XP to record the video, i get about 1 minute of video on preview with flecks of color runing over the image and then it locks up and will not work.

Because both HP's fail the same way I did not consider reloading XP.

Becasue the Sony software ( image mixer- pixela) does not start I cna not attempt to use it

Thanks

Graham thisn is my third attempt to reply, I keep gettingan error , posibly because I am doing something incorrect.

I do get teh ping and see teh camera in hw table and tray

I am using firewire with IOGEAr bus card
Both HP's with XP fail in the same manner. Sony software fails to initialize
When I try to record using XP I get COlor flecks running through the video and after about 1 minute the record function locks up and freezes the image on the preview

I will retry on the second computer to see if XP fails in the same maner when I try to record video.

Because both Hp's fail the same way with eth sony software I did not think Xp would be an issue. When I found teh KB note indicting XP does not support this model I did not persue it further.

I have tested the sony CD on anotehr computer(dell desktop) with XP and it is useable , no initialization failure. I was using the USB connection at the time and was able to record using Image mixer sfw.

With regard to my original post. I swapped the camera for a Sharp VX-AX1H and did not change anything else at all. Writing back to the camcorder via firewire worked perfectly. It must be a Sony trv-22e specific problem and I am going to take it back to be fixed or returned as not fit for purpose.

Hi,

I tried with a different computer with Windos ME and it didn´t work, so I think that I have to return it!
