After logging in to Windows Xp Professional my computer
just sits there with a blank screen. If I let it stay like
that for a few mins it will continue to load the desktop
and stuff. If I press like spacebar during this inactive
period it will load the desktop. I have checked the
registry entries for Run in local machine and elsewhere as
well as running MS bootvis and nothing is found! What is
pausing my login process? I dont have any mounts or
anything and I have virtually removeed every driver and re-
installed and it still is doing it!!! PlZ! Help! I've
checked everything and cant explain why. My wifes machine
is also having same thing. She is AMD and I am Intel and
we have dissimilar hardware. Only similarity is we have
Bell Sympatico and it's set to auto-login and usually does
so when everything else is loaded. PlZ! Help!

her system is amd 1.4ghz,nvidia, sblive, mine is
2ghz,radeon,audigy2

Look at your TCP/IP settings. If it's configured for full
DHCP it may be trying to reach a non existent DHCP server
and the delay would be caused by this. Configure TCP/IP
with a fixed IP. It's in the configuration manual.

If you start the computer in Safe Mode, does this 'stalling' go away?
If so, then it could be either a program that loads when the computer
start (Startup folder) or it could be the user account.

Since you stated that it happens on another computer with different
hardware and user account but only have the Bell Sympatico is similar, I
would think it is that program. Try to set the program so it doesn't
auto login and see if the OS still pauses.
