No exposure adjs scanning from doc feeder HP all-in-one

Howdy all.

I'm trying to use a new HP C7280 under Mac OS X 10.4 and have discovered
that although when scanning one doc at a time from the flat glass platen
permits me to adjust all aspects of the exposure, scanning docs from the
feeder reverts to automatic exposure (quite unsatisfactory for handwritten
pencil documents, which is why I bought the C7280 in the first place).

Any one else experienced this with the C7280 or other HP all-in-ones?
(I'm hoping this will be cured by new drivers, but would like to know if
this is just a shortcoming of scanning from the document feeder of any
HP all-in-one.)

Thanks!

All HP products I've come in contact with over the past 5 years have
been layered on with so much crappy "user software" layers as to make
them difficult to use (if not unusable) for their intended purpose.

HP was a great company once upon a time. Of course the better part of
it split off... (now Agilent).
