no explorer

When I start up...no matter what user name I use, windows
comes up, but there are no icons and nothing to click,
just plain wallpaper...I then have to use the task
manager and tell it to run a new task and type explorer.
Any suggestions? Thanks

Here's what you should probably do

1. Start Registry Editor (regedit)
2. Navigate
to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon"
3. If not present, create string value called "Shell"
4. Set value of "Shell" to "Explorer.exe"

This should probably fix the problem
