As my post below.... Have copied all the missed files into the appropriate
folders system32 and drivers. I get to the desktop and there is nothing there
eg. Internet Explorer, No network etc. Tried installing all from installation
disks sound card, ethernet, etc. Still no joy. Won't let me on my network or
internet eventhough they are now showing in device manager as installed.
Won't let me reboot into safe mode and won't allow me to install Mcafee.
Can anybody help me???
Or should I just scrap Windows and go with Linux?
SYSTEM: AMD Athlon 64 4000+, 1gb Crucial Ram, 2x 120gb hd 1x 80gb hd, 2x DVD
Writers, Epson R220 printer, Minolta film Scanner. Asus A8V deluxe M/B.

Have reformatted twice... Also keeps killing my Primary Master drive, so have
installed OS on Primary Slave and still have the same problem. Been at this
all day and is doing my head right in.
The only thing I can think of is somekind of virus. I have seen the same
thing on 3 pc's now but unfortunately this one is mine.. GRRRR!

Have no clue what your post below means nor reads. In the meantime:

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

No. Still no joy. Can install anything except norton, mcafee, avg related
products which to me looks highly suspect. Thinking I still have something
viral.

Hi all, just to close this post... It was my Hard Drive in the end. Ran RAM
diag for 2 days with no errors. Swapped out my drive for a different one and
voila no more problems....
Thanks all who tried to help
