No dialogs pre login window

Greetings

After W2K starts and just before the login window appears there should be a
number of dialog boxes appear with

Windows starting up
Applying computer settings
Applying software installation settings

On most of our machines these dialogs do not appear, which means most users
are not aware of any packages that are installing (they just see the blue
screen). I have not found any options to enable or diable this feature. A
clean install of 2K (or XP) will show these dialogs, so it is something in
the way we have setup the workstations, but I'm buggered if I know what.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Peter,

This may be caused by the use of a "/s" or "/q" switch for a switch during
a process at boot.
This is common in an environment using things like SMS or MSUS for updates
or hardware inventory. In silent or quiet mode for these applications is an
example of what may be happening. Also are you using a corporate image?

Also, just as confirmation, you did not indicate that this was causing any
work stoppage.
Please verify if there is anything using the "/s" or "/q" switch at boot
and we can remove it for testing.

Thank you for your reply.

We do use a corporate image here, however if I install a fresh copy of W2K
and attach it to the network I get the dialog boxes, even after it has
applied all the same updates and policy settings. I would have thought that
I would at a minimum get the Windows is starting up dialog. I believe it is
something that we have incorrectly set in the image, I'm just not sure where
to look. It doesn't affect how people work, they just see a blue screen
until the login window appears. What is frustrating is if we create a
package to roll out to everyone and it is quite large, then the user will
only see a blue screen until the package has installed, and the login window
appears. Many users who are not too knowledgeable will just turn their
machine off thinking there is something wrong. (They have no patience)

We don't have any processes with /s or /q switches, it is just a standard
boot.
