no dial tone

I have been recieving a no dial tone message on modem
calls.

In your modem set up, (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Phone and Modem
Options, Highlight your Modem, click on Properties. Uncheck the "Wait for
dial tone before dialling" option.

You may have to re-create your Dial-Up Connection after this is done.
