No desktop icons after SP2 install

After installing SP2 I was able to login in normally.
However, I had no desktop icons or tool bar. I only had a
mouse. Ctr-Alt-Del worked and i was able to get to files
this way. I uninstalled SP2 and PC is back to "normal".
Is there a known solution to this or should I scrath the
install altogether.

I installed SP2 4 times, then uninstalled it 4 times before it worked on my
Computer. I was reading everybody's reply's on these boards just to figure
out what other people did to get SP2 to work. I finally tried it the 5th time
and it worked. First of all I defrag, clean trash, clean temp Internet files,
disk cleanup, did a system file check, turn off antivirus, make sure script
blocking is disabled, protect your computer with ICF, if you have Spybot
disable resident shield and tea timer, use the run command type in misconfig
hit enter, I unchecked everything under the tab startup, and I also cleared
the prefetch folder. I also, unplugged my printer the only thing I left
plugged in was Computer, Monitor, Keyboard and my Cordless Mouse. After doing
all this it worked. Everything seems to be working great I did this on
Tuesday so it's been several days now. Try this if you want to install SP2
and see how it goes if it does not work you can always uninstall it. I was
working on my Computer for (2) days before it worked for me also make sure
all your Updates are Updated through Windows Update site.
