No boot & No boot log

B

Bob Byrne

Hello,
Sometimes when I boot cold XP hangs with a blank screen just after
the logo screen appears. Safe mode loads ok.
The boot log file would give me some sort of clue to the problem but I'm
getting the same symptoms as KB article Q275735 that applies to
Win2000, "Ntbtlog.txt File Not Written When Boot Logging Is Enabled".
This article describes the problem but gives no solution.
I've recently did a clean install going from FAT32 to NTFS but don't think
it is related.

Hey Bob,

Try modifying your C:\boot.ini by adding the /sos option like this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /sos

This will display on the screen each device as it's loaded, so you can
visually see where it's hanging up regardless of the ntbtlog...
