Hi All,
New Gateway Laptop. XP Pro. Have a HP Printer/Fax/Scanner K80,
USB connection. Downloaded and installed the newest drivers for it. Made
sure before I installed the new drivers, I uninstalled any instances of HP
on the computer.
When I plug it into another computer running Win 98SE, the printer works
fine.
When I plug it into the Gateway, there is no bee bob sound that normally
sounds when a USB item
is connected.
I have called Hp tech, spent lots of $'s; they tried everything. No
solution.
Called Gateway. They say it's an HP problem.

Why don't I hear the bee bob sound when I connect it ?
I have a USB mouse. When I connect it to either of the two USB ports on the
back of the laptop, I
hear the bee bob sound.

I also went into the Device Manager and deleted anything under Universal
Serial Bus controllers and
rebooted the computer. Tried many other things too numerous to mention.
I'm probably missing
something simple.

Would appreciate any help,
Paul Berkow

From your description, it is not clear if the printer actually *works*?
In any event, go to this site and follow the instructions to the letter
for removing and reinstalling printers.

Thanks for trying. The printer works fine on another computer.
I went to the web site you suggested. No help.
There has to be something else going on because there is no bee bob
when I plug the printer into the back of the computer.
I think something is wrong at this point that has to be cleared up first.
When the USB cord is put into the port, for some reason the computer
is not recognizing the fact that a cord has been plugged in.

Try a different usb port. Try a different usb cable.

Thanks for the try, but I already stated that the cable worked on another
computer,
and I tried it in both ports on the back of the labtop. Also I tried my USB
mouse
in both ports and I hear the bee bobs and it worked in both ports.
