I have been using MSAS since back Feb. version 5.01 if memory serves me
correctly. I have never received automatic definition update I have
always done them manually through File > Check For Updates. I can get
the latest updates manually with no problem. I have had this problem
with all version, 501, 509, 614 and 615. I have done uninstall before
doing new install, I have tried new installs over the top of older
versions, nothing I have tried has got updates to work. I have not
reported this before because I figure that this is Beta and one day it
may be fixed, anyone know of a fix for this? Thank you in advance for
you thoughts.

Is there a third party firewall involved? If you search on firewall in the
product help, it names the executables that need to be allowed to reach the
Internet through the firewall. It is possible that the automatic update
executable is different than the one in use when you do File, check for
update.

Is there an administrator logged into the machine at the time the
definitions are scheduled to be updated?

Go to Options > Settings > (AutoUpdater) and ensure that the following is
checked:
Enable automatic updates (recommended)

It is that way and been that way since day one, thank you any ways, next
option.

No software firewall installed, NAT router only I have tried both
Netgear and Dlink routers. Went through the help section of MSAS and all
is well according to MS. The account login is always administrator account.

If you run Microsoft Antispyware Update, via the start menu, does that work?

You might want to test this later this week, we're about due for another set
of updates.

I see that you've done both uninstall and reinstall and upgrade installs.

Have you, at any point uninstalled, deleted the installation folder and
subfolders (typically c:\program files\microsoft antispyware)--and then
reinstalled?

You will lose access to any quarantined items, and all preferences and
option choices in this process.

Yes this works going through the start menu.

Yes I have.

Again yes I have, I do not care about the quarantined folder I never
quarantine anything just delete. And as far as preferences go I can
always set them again.

Hmm - I think I'm out of suggestions. I don't know if the scheduler for
updates is the same one as the scheduler for scanning. Do scheduled scans
work?

Have you tried modifying the schedule--try different times?

There are more in-depth uninstall suggestions--running a registry cleaner,
and digging into stuff left behind in \system32, but I don't have a clear
set of instructions for those things, because I'm not convinced they are
necessary.

Wait for beta2??

Beta 2 is his best option right now, I would suggest using the following
third party AntiSpyware solutions in conjunction with Microsoft AntiSpyware:
Ad-Aware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://www.intermute.com/products/cwshredder.html
Spy Sweeper - http://www.webroot.com
Ccleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com

Scheduled scan perform like clock work.
Have you tried modifying the schedule--try different times?
I have tried it at several different times am & pm early and late.
