I recently installed XP on my Thinkpad X20 and there is no
audio whatsoever...no audio control button on the taskbar
and nothing happens when I push the audio keys on the
keyboard.

I spoke to IBM tech support and they believe it is
something in XP that is causing the problem. I would be
grateful for any guidance.

I'm surprised they were unable to help you as IBM tech support is
usually pretty good. Anyway, you will need to obtain XP drivers for
the sound chip that's installed in your Thinkpad X20.

If you upgraded the Thinkpad OS from Win9X/ME to XP you should make
sure that all your devices are working correctly not just the sound.
