no audio from cd

I recently went from using ME to XP home, since then I am unable to get any type of audio from cd or system. However, I get perfect audio from tv\fm card. Help

Go to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices. Select Volume>Advanced
and make sure the sliders are set about
half way and no mute boxes are checked.

Thank you Rich Barry for your assistance. However,the problem remains the same despite doing what yoiu suggested. Any other suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks much.
