No 6.1 Speaker Option in Control Panel???

I have a Creative Audigy 2 soundcard and the Creative Megaworks 6.1 THX
surround speakers. Through speaker setup in Creative's software I can choose
6.1 speakers and they test just fine. However, after loading a new game, Half
Life 2, I found that I can not choose 6.1 speakers from within the game's
options. Only 5.1 or 7.1 speaker options are available (besides all the lower
end options).

So I went and checked what is set-up in Windows XP Control Panel -> Sound
devices -> speaker settings -> Advanced -> and Windows seems to think I have
7.1 surround speakers....It has no 6.1 speaker option....only 5.1 or 7.1 just
like the options that the Half Life 2 game gives me. I'm sure teh game is
getting its 'cue' from Windows' Control Panel and merely mimicking teh
options given there.

I have the box checked in the Creative software to "Synchronize with Control
Panel" but it doesn't seem to do any good.

Anybody have any ideas why Windows XP won't recognize that I have 6.1
speakers, or why it won't even allow me to choose the option of 6.1 speakers?

Hello.

I've got a feeling that 6.1 on the Audigy is just remixed from 5.1. You
need to set 6.1 in the Audigy panel, and 5.1 in Windows (untie them first).

There's a painful lack of information on the subject.
