.nls

Hi, can somebody please tell me what files with the .nls extension are for
please.
I have a number of them in my System32 folder, eg.c_037.nls, c_437.nls etc

xp professional install that has recently been repaired.

Same here with Home-Edition, 83 of them, average size ~64KB, most are dated
18/08/2001

Some have other names than C_#####.nls, such as big5.nls, bopomofo.nls

Others not in \system32 are;
C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$\locale.nls (a blue, compressed file)
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\c_28603.nls
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\locale.nls

I looked them up once, was given two choices.
I wasn't awfully happy with either choice.
I'll have another look on Google and get back.

Something pertinent here, indicates a similar, example "CP_1252.NLS" to be
"Codepage information", not sure what OS this page refers to.;

indicates that these are Code Page National Language Support files.

In Windows Help and Support, try a search for Code Page.
