Recently upgraded to NIS 2006. Just noticed the icon for the recyle bin no
longer changes to indicate files are present when selected for deletion.
Files are in the recycle bin and it appears to operate properly -- it's just
that the icon no longer changes to indicates files are present for deletion.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Tnx,

Contact Symantec Tech Support for IMO you're better off ditching NIS.

If you don't want to discuss NIS here, maybe you shouldn't offer your
opinions on it.

To begin with, NIS is a Symantec product so it's not really appropriate
to bring up issues with it in here. Ask Symantec for help with their
product.

Secondly I, as do many others in here, believe the quality of many
Symantec products is lacking, and their recent offerings are no
different - bloatware among other issues. Just do a cursory scan of the
posts in this group to see how many issues are caused by these products.

My advice was a reasonable attempt to discuss how to deal with a problem
with NIS. If it works on your system fine but for many it causes
problems and the best advice is to avoid it. There are other good
solutions that work well in it's place. Sorry you don't like the
advice, but then again, don't take it if you don't agree with it.

I agree that that NIS should be discussed elsewhere. But if you're going
to tell them to go elsewhere then why give your so-called advice? And I
suppose if others wanted to express their disagreement with your "advice"
you'd tell them this isn't an appropriate place to discuss it? Sounds a
little hypocritical to me. And not everyone agrees with you opinion. There
must be a number of people who don't agree but they don't care to take the
crap from the anti-Symantec gestapo.

Lol..I don't understand what your issue is. It's a Symantec product.
They need help with it. I suggested to contact Symantec (assuming they
want to keep it). But I also gave an opinion that they were better off
without it. I don't see a contradiction here. Just seems to have
ruffled your feathers for whatever reason. So be it. I stand by the
original post. Have a good one.

While not a consensus, most responders who do Computer &
Technical work have probably been involved with a problematic
NIS or NAV situation. This separates us from the average user
because of the various setups/applications we encounter. If you
only use a single vendor product, you don't expose yourself to a
alternate which may be better/cheaper/leaner..... In my own case,
I'm not impressed by or interested in either Symantec or McAfee.
However, I do not "Knock" them without details of why or fail
to offer workable alternatives. Spend 3-4 hours trying to untangle
a failed Norton install/upgrade/subscription and do this 50+ times
and you'll soon detect a pattern and cause for re-thinking using or
recommending them in the future.

There's a distinct difference between a product "bashing" and trying
to inform less experienced users and help them, their PCs and in
some cases their wallet.

There's also a difference in giving your opinion when ask and cramming it
down some innocent persons throat. If I ask "What's your opinion of abc
software" then feel free to tell me you hate it and wouldn't recommend it.
That's fair. But if I want to use abc software, am trying to resolve a
problem with it, and the only thing they can offer is that they hate it and
wouldn't recommend it, then I can't see that they're constructive at all.
And frankly I don't appreciate their input.

I liken it to a person who has sworn that they'd never drive another Ford
but enjoys going around to Chevy owers telling them they should get rid of
that piece of junk.

And, yes, I'm sure it shows that the abc software gestapo "ruffles my
feathers". The person that started this thread didn't ask for anyone's
opinion of NIS. They mistakening posted their legitimate question in the
wrong newsgroup.

You make your point very well. It doesn't matter to me what product
anybody uses or likes. Just today, I was testing BitDefender's new free
version 8.0 AV - pretty nice product and a good addition to Avast/AVG
for the folks looking for "Free" alternatives. I still test each year's
offering
from Symantec & McAfee, checking for improvements.

Three things that people post about are likely to get some "Bashing" on
XP-General
1.) AOL
2.) Symantec/Norton
3.) Real Audio
Followed closely by the "Yes-it-Is, No-it-Isn't" concerning:
1.) Pagefile configuration
2.) Defragmentation
And at any time, any of those topics can morph into:
A.) Politics
B.) Windows Licensing & Product Activation
C.) MVPs
D.) "Last Word", run-on threads

...and received legitimate advice. If you don't agree with the advice
then give your own. Don't expect others to limit theirs to something
that you think is appropriate. And maybe it will save the OP some
future grief. This is an open newsgroup; it's the wealth and diversity
of opinion and skills that make it valuable.

It's a Recognition for Helping, like giving Blood donors a Cookie
and Orange Juice. I doubt that anyone who helps/posts here would
do it "Purely" to obtain an MVP designation.
